Default OH NO!!! gasket on front of timing cover ruined

Well long story short, the small round seal on the front of the timing cover around where the crank snout comes out of is rotted and has crumbled away.

Does anybody have the part number for the small black press in looking gasket, or is it needed as I received another black round seal in my cam install kit but can't figure out where it goes. Plus it looks nothing like the seal that was in there.

Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Hopefully somebody can help me out with this.

If you're talking about the front cover seal that goes behind the crank pulley, usually black in color, it is GMPN 12561244.
It is very likely the one that comes with your cam install kit.

so it just goes on behind the crank pulley? and which side faces the block and which side faces the pulley?

What about the one that is ruined that I can no longer use that sits inside the timing cover. Do you know a technical term or part number for it?

It's just one piece. You pull the whole thing out of the cover and put the new one in. It's only in 2 pieces now because it is broken.

Read this whole article. Part 4 explains what you're asking I believe.

Does it look like this?

Okay I just took a pic of what I'm talking about. Does this gasket just slide on the crank pulley and then when I tighten the crank pulley down it seals up? Help me out.

The front "crankshaft front oil seal" goes in with the inner lip facing the crank. If you look closely, you will see that there is a taper or angle to it, and the taper should be facing the crank. Use a large socket or similar tool to install the new seal so it goes in straight and flat.
