What size rims/tires do I need? 600rwhp/700rwtq
Could someone give me a crashcourse in slicks? How do you guys know how tall and wide your slicks should be? I see 15" and 16" tall rims and 26, 27, 28+" tires. Then there are 8,9,10,10w,11" wide slicks. Is there a formula? I know it has to do with your gearing, power level, transmission and shift point and I'm a lost.
I need to know what size tire I should be running with my set-up. I figure 15" rims are better/more popular because of the extra sidewall but I want to get a pair of matching 16" Fikse FM-5's. For some reason I'm guessing I'm gonna need a pair of 28" slicks. I figured a 16" rim with 28" tires would be close to a 15" rim on 26" tires..?? I also need to know what width the rim needs to be and what the best tire is. I know a guy that has 16x9, 16x9.5 and 16x10 rims for sale. I was gonna get the 16x10 set for a wider tire but I've heard of mustangs running in the 8's on 8" slicks. How is this so? Why would you run an 8" slick if you can run a 10" slick? Is there a downfall to going too wide? All I know is my 315 Nitto Drag radials won't hook for crap in first gear in my car and thats with only 400rwhp. I'm tuning the turbo kit for 600rwhp and the car will be putting down over 700rwtq at 3600rpm on a Harlen 2-step (car is a 6 speed). I will probably be shifting at 6000rpm. I would like to run the 1/4 and will a few times but the car will mainly be run at a much cloer 1/8th mile track. How much will that effect things? I'm sure a lot.
