Strange part number for LS6 oil pump??
I ordered an LS6 oil pump for my TA and this is the part number that they told me: 12586655. This does not match the normal I have seen most guys using. Anyone know what this is?

I ordered an LS6 oil pump and LS2 timing chain from SDPC. The part # on the box for the oil pump is 12586665. The part # stamped on the pump itself is 12556436. I hope this is the LS6 oil pump. 04 made in Canada.
What is the part # on the pump you bought?
Thanks

I just bought one last week. The latest part # is 12586666. The number just a couple of weeks before that was 12586665. GM can't make up it's mind what they want to call it. The 12586666 is listed as the service replacement pump for all LSx motors now. (Excluding the DOD LS2 of course)

STT Canada
Comparing to yours, possibly a batch/production run number. Do you know anybody that ports oil pumps for a reasonable price?

Has anyone ever PROVEN that even is such as thing as an "LS6" oil pump?
Every catalog listing that I have seen makes no differentiation between LS1 or LS6 for oil pumps. Here's the GM description for ALL Corvette oil pumps....
"Mechanical Catalog - 2004 - Chevrolet/Geo - Corvette
Engine, Lubrication, Oil pump, OIL PUMP, Corvette - 5.7L "
It amazes me how gullible some people are when it comes to buying "performance" parts.

I don't consider a dealer item ie stock LS6 oil pump a performance part. I was confused by the different part numbers and trying to determine if there really is a difference in the stock LS1 pump on my 1998 and the oil pump I bought from SDPC.
See part # above.
Thanks

you could buy an oil pump for a 2001 corvette and still get an ls6 oil pump
its a design type deal, as long as you're not running the old design that was prone to failure thats what is important. 98-99 being the old style....2000+ being preferred. i have a 2000 and i'm still going to replace my pump, mileage is a factor for some people.

I don't consider an LS6 engine anymore of a performance engine than its predecessor the LS1. Thanks for the confirmation that what I purchased is the latest design and hopefully less prone to failure which is my concern owning a '98.
