Is this possible?? So I just pulled the driver side head to helicoil a header bolt hole and happened to notice that the cylinder walls still have a somewhat fresh looking crosshatch pattern from honing. the part that baffles me is that this motor is supposed to have about 80k miles on it??? Has anybody else seen this?

Modern oils keep wear to a small extent compared to 40 years ago. I've seen hard used Marine BBC's with over 850 hours use with a well intact crosshatch.
