Is this piston slap? Sound clip included! I hear this ticking noise sometimes on cold starts and on warm restarts. It goes away after driving for a few minutes.

I don't think so.. My LS1 occasionally sounds this way as well. More like lifter / valvetrain noise.. Check out this site for "the real deal"! http://www.pistonslap.com/

welcome to the world of piston slap. Notice how your car will slap to death untill warmed and driven a few minutes? Then it's quiet as can be until you turn it off for 15 minutes.Then after 15 minutes it will slap again until you put a lil' more heat into the pistons again? Don't worry about engine longevity TOO much. My friend has a '98 z that slaps HARD when it's cold and he has over 100k miles- strong as ever!!! His slapped hard since I can remember. I don't think it's gotten much worse over time.
