Default Gasket Question

Alright I have a 2001 ls1 engine that i'm putting into my 91 camaro but i have a few questions about the gaskets that i hope you guys can help me with. I have new rod bolts, timing chain, and oil pump that putting in before I'm dropping the motor in, and i'm wondering what gaskets i should replace while i'm down there and which ones will be fine. Also i'm taking the intake off to get it painted so i need to know about that gasket too. Thanks a lot guys.

Justin

P.S. - the engine has 30k miles on it and has sat for about 6 months.

At a minimum I would say that you would need at least the following:

ex manif gaskets
oil pan gasket
front cover gasket
oil pump o-ring
crank pulley seal
intake manifold o-rings (these can normally be re-used - depends on their condition)

These items are not cheap from the dealer but they do sell them single or possibly in a complete re-build kit. Call your local GM dealer. Good Luck.

front cover, o-ring, and crank seal is all i would do. the rest of the gaskets are re-usable.

That's what I was just thinking. I think even the front cover seal is pretty reuseable; I've had mine off twice and never replaced it, and it doesn't leak at all. Replace the crank seal for sure, though!

The best thing would be to inspect the motor before you clean it up and see if it has been leaking anywhere already.
