Hi everyone. Im relatively new to this site & my car as well. I have a 2002 A4 z28 with a cat-back, lid, bellows & filter. I talked to a couple of the sponsors here as far as what TC to go with. One says 3000, the other says 2500. Any suggestions?

you should prolly go 3000 or more from what i've heard... also kinda depends on what else you plan on doing with your car

Take my word for it and don't get anything less than a 3000 stall speed converter. If you do, you'll just want more in a very short time.

I had a bad experience with a couple of Yank converters and ended up taking the stock convert to a rebuilder. At 2400 or there about I could not be more happy and it would have been $500 cheaper in parts had I done it in the first place.

Ive just been reading through my search on stall speeds & now Im more confused. One of the sponsors on the right says the "sweet spot" for a 02 LS1 is about 3000 - 3200. I asked about a 3500 & they said they could do it for the same price but 3000 would really be better with a shift kit & cooler. Everything Im reading on this site is promoting nothing under 3500???

It depends on what you're looking for and your tolerance for "looseness".

For good daily driving behavior, stay around 3000. For max track results, don't go under 3500. STR can have an effect on the stall (i.e. higher STR with a higher stall will tighten it up somewhat, at the expense of top end effeciency).

Do some more reading, there's plenty in search.

My 3000 stall is perfect with my 2.73 gears. drivability is awesome. I definitely wouldnt have gone bigger.

I had a TP4400 converter before in my old formula with 4.11 gears and hated it. slipped during lockup and was very loose.

I read your post on yours & you really seem to like it. So you think I should stick with the 3000?

Do I have the same gears as you? Mines a 02 z28.

I am also looking into getting a converter with same stall speed. I also plan on getting 3:73's

Absolute minimum should be 3000. Higher will probably be good if you plan on getting a cam in the future. I went 3500 and it was perfect for a NA, stock internal daily driver but then I went with a huge cam so I'm having it restalled to 4,000.

I can't believe anyone would even suggest a 2500 stall on a LS1. That's not even a great stall for a LT1. You want at least the 3000 stall. I myself wouldn't go less then 3500 but I do run at the track a few times a year. TCI 3000 is a great daily driver stall for your car. TCI 3500 is an awesome daily driver/weekend warrior stall for your car. If money is no object then Yank SS3600 is a great choice for a really tight feeling converter that can kick butt at the track as well.

Good luck and remember that most people who get a stall wish they had gone bigger within 6 months. The general rule of thumb is pick the stall you want and then order one size bigger

A 3500 and 3.73 gears are just about the perfect combination for a street machine. If you're going with those gears, I wouldn't bother with a 3000 which is what I had in the car when I still had the 3.15 gears.

I have an 02 z28 with just a cat-back & lid. Im looking for a fast street car. No track racing. Next year I will add a cam & headers.

I just called Yank & he recommended around 3200.
Speed Inc recommends 3000 based on that information.

Everyone here recommends more.

You could have saved all your money and stayed with your stock converter as that 2400 doesn't gain you enough to have made it worth the effort to install it, let alone pay for it.

No, a number of us highly recommend the TCI 3000. There are several guys that have owned bigger stalls that really love this one. If great driveability on the street is an priority for you, you will enjoy this converter! I don't dispute that maybe the Yank SS3600 combines the best of both worlds, but the huge price differential gives TCI the nod. Plus their customer service is second to none.
