VE Tune vs MAF...Long term
With some cars having speed density from the factory and some race cars having speed density definitely makes you wonder if we really need a MAF. Granted a MAF will correct for any little issues in the tune but it is really needed? Can you tune the VE table so that during normal driving you command a 14.7 like with a MAF and once your on the gas or up top you go to a safe 13.0-12.5?

That's the way it is, regardless of MAF or SD setup. (At least during closed loop fueling). The MAF is better at handling airflow transients though and like you said, keep fueling more consistent.

if you live in hawaii, or any other super-stable weather sort of place, sure
I live in chicago, that means -30 in the winter and 130 in the summer. I need the maf. There are people that have multiple tunes (50,70,90F) and just load up proper before they go to the track. So if you want a perfect tune the track keep that SD tune around, but normally, I'd drive around in MAF.
