Default 130,000 miles...a few questions

hey guys, i got a 98 z28 and my miles are getting kind of high. i baught it with that many miles cuz i was willing to do a rebuld/swap/etc. later. i want to start road racing it now and i'm gonna need somthing more than the stock engine b/c i'm not confident racing on a 130,000 mile car. soooo....my question is, what would you guys do. i dont have alot of cash (prob about 4-6 grand if everything goes right) to get a new motor in there, but i'm not sure what i should go for. i'm in cali and i have to pass the sniffer and inspection, so i dont think that a stroker is going to work. i want a new motor (or a rebuld), but i also want more power. any suggestions?

sell your kidney and get a 427 / turbo setup. No seriously though what kind of problems are you having that you think it wouldnt be safe to race on 130K? How well is it maintained? I know plenty of guys racing that kind of mileage.

Well I would save your money, and instead of a new motor, get heads and cam (something like a 224/224) so that you can still pass emissions. Get the regular bolt ons, and you should be set. BTW, run an extra quart of oil if you go roadracing or autoXing so you don't starve the engine in high g situations.

I would be more worried about the rear end than the engine. Do a compression test and oil analysis if you want to check out the engine. I'd hate to spend all that money on a rebuild if you don't have to.

Run it 'til it breaks. Then rebuild it.

LS1's have been proven to last way longer than 130,000 miles (if taken care of). I have a buddy with a C5 with 267,000 miles on it and it only burns about a quart of oil every 3000 miles or so. Still puts out the power too.
