Default at home gear change

has anyone changed their stock gears in the 10 bolt to 3.73 gears i was wondering if you need special tools to do it or if you have any tips/sites to get gears or to give easy directions

i heard its really hard and you will end up messing it up. you should take it to a shop to have that done

listen you can do it yourself...i have and mine was quiter then the stock gers and there were 3.73s also. i also did not use any gauges hahaha i did it all by feel and it was my first time. i ahd the parts and wanted to see if i could do it...this was in my 89

i got lucky i think but shows you you can do it

I also did mine myself in my driveway, and it was a big pain in the ***, but it is possible. Get a cheap dial indicator to set your backlash, its only $10 from harbor freight. Youll need a bearing press and seperator for the pinion and bearing every time you change your shim. Start with a .035 shim... I got lucky and the .035 was perfect on my 4.10s.
