Default Code scan question?

My Service Engine Soon light came on, says something like "catylyst on left bank not above threshold" Or something like that.......what exactly does that mean?

The guys at the parts store said that GM would have to replace anything emissions related if the car has less than 80k miles. Some kind of federal law.

Any ideas on the catalyst and the law?

Thanks for any info

Was the code P0420 or P0430 Catalyst System Low Efficiency? If that's it, sounds like a bad cat - happens a lot. 420 in bank 1 (driver's side), 430 is bank 2 (passenger side) - not sure what they meant by "left bank." Cats are covered by GM under the federal emissions warranty for 8 yrs/80K. Really need the exact code to be sure though. Hope this helps...

It was P0420.

It says Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold.

However, the light has since gone out.

Thanks for clearing up the warranty info!!!
