Default 12 bolt out of a truck??

A buddy of mine has a 12-bolt in one of his trucks and was thinking of selling it. What im wondering is that can this rear end be made to fit an f-body or would it have to be heavily modified??..........Thanks

It can definitely be made to fit but there will be work involved. I'm working on a 9" for my car right now. I'm taking the easy route and just cutting all the mounts off my 10 bolt and transferring them to the 9" instead of fabbing up all new everything. I will have to fab a torque arm mount and caliper brackets. Also, if it's coming out of a truck chances are it would need to narrowed, I got lucky and found one out of a '77 station wagon that's only a 1/4" wider so I wont have to narrow mine.

The 12 bolt car rear is the stronger one that Strange, etc. model theirs after. The 12 bolt truck rear has smaller bearings and pinion diameter, so it isnt as strong.

Yeah what zoom sed. I almost just bought one out of a '73-'87 for my blazer to mod and fix but I found out about the smaller bearings and stuff but also they don't have all the gears available. I am prolly gonna get an 8.5" out of a newer '88 up full size p/u. Also to consider a 14 bolt out of a 2500 p/u it's a 9.5" and is supposedly "indestructable" the only problem is that it is about 60lbs heavier than the stock 7 5/8" and supposedly all the gears and stuff we would want are available.
