Default $3500, cracked block, best options ?

I have 98 TA M6 with 39,000 miles pretty much stock except for a lid and a catback. the motor got hydrolocked, has a crack in the block and probably 1-2 bent rods. $3500 including installation. I street race every once in a while, go to the track around 4 times a year. my goal would be in a 400 hp range so I don't plan on doing anything crazy.

My first option would be to get a used ls1 shortblock, used LT and ORY, used ls6 intake, used UD pulley and probably a zo6 or sleeper cam (don't like the lope) and a tune.

Second, get a forged shortblock ($3000) and (500 left) save a little more for the installation. it probably would take a year or less to start modding the car.

Third, ???

What's a good price for a used machined shortblock?
How much would be a fair price for the labor on the two options?
What would be the best thing to do?

Thanks !!

I'd go with the forged shortblock setup for boost, personally...

Good option but the problem is that I don't have another $4000 for boost and it will take a long time to save it (poor college student ), also with that I will need a 12 bolt $2500, a clutch $1000 and many other little things that are required for boost applications. but thanks for your opinion.

Search around for deals. Used engine from a wreck, "unfinished" project engine, short block, etc. You'll find something that will click.

Go forged shortblock and just save up for heads and cam. Find a decent sized used cam and then rely on a buddy for tuning around your area.

TSP has a 408 iron block for around 3500 bucks if i remember correctly. You can go in the for sale or group purchase section and usually sponsors will have cams for sale of the prototypes that they are going to produce in the future. Most of the time you can find dyno only cams for around 250 bucks. Then just wait until you can do heads to put the cam in and you'll save money on valve springs and the like.
