Default Benefits of swapping 853 heads to 317 heads

I have a 99 TA with stock unported 853 heads. If I were to install a set of 317 cast stock unported heads would I see any gains or losses with my TR224/227 114 LSA cam? What are the pros and cons of both heads?

For all the trouble of swapping heads and such, you should look into some aftermarket ported ones - especially ones in the group special section. IMHO, you proabably won't notice a difference between the stock castings. good luck whatever you do!

not worth the swap; you'll gain a bit of CFM but loose ~.4 CR.

You can do like I did, and have the 317's milled to get back to stock compression and then just do a good cleanup in the ports yourself. I have been happy with mine since I put them on. Gained a some time and MPH in the quarter mile for a fraction of the cost of professionally ported heads. To answer your question I would not just go from 853's to stock 317's, you will not see any noticeable gains; but a homeported set of milled 317's may be a good option if you are on a budget. That is my .02

I dont thik it's worth it wither.
Now if you milled them .040 and ran a .040 head gasket you might see some power, but not a huge gain.
