Visual difference between Series 2 and Series 3 carriers?

Visual difference between Series 2 and Series 3 carriers? Is there a visual way to tell the difference between a series 2 and series 3 carrier? I'll eventually be taking out the pumpkin and didn't know what to look for to tell which carrier it is.
I ask if there is a visual way for the rear end that I took out of a '97 Camaro Z28 has 3.73's in it but I don't know if came with 3.23's or 3.73's to begin with.
