Default Painting

I bought my car used a few months ago has some dents and dings in it very small and the paint on the bumpers is all cracked and now I put a big scratch in my rear quarter panal because i was looking out my back window not the side mirror. My dad has 2 or 3 spray guns layin around and I have a huge compressor and i wanted to learn how to paint. I have a full size truck cap i can sand down and practice on before i start doing anything to my car too. Just wondered if u guys had any tips for me before i started I have never used really thick auto paint before. Also what kinda presure settings should i use. Also how hard is it to clear coat? My friends dad paints as a living but i dont know sign langauge so its hard to talk to him thats why im asking for ur input. Thanx
