Pro 5.0 shifter install.....inner boot????
With my 5.0 shifter came the instructions saying to trim the inner boot. The inner boot does not even come close to the template they have. What did you guys do.
thanks

I didn't bolt mine down. This is a car that was an A4 just converted it to a manual. I bought the boot cuz I have a big hole in my floorboard, and the boot helps cut down on noise. Seals it a little bit.

It is important because you dont want dirt from underneath the car getting into the shifter. If you trim the inner boot, you are able to slide it on the shifter and make a seal.

Yes, they are talking about the huge boot that screws into the floorpan, not the little boot that covers the stock shifter. Mine came with the hurtst shifter, and there is no way that little boot would fit on the pro 5.0

As GETSOMZ28 said, it is important to cut the boot to seal the shifter from the debris from underneath the car. If debris enters the shifter base, it is possible for debris to make it into the transmission, since it is only sealed with grease, and could possibly ruin the transmission.

The real solution would have been for the shifter to come with a proper boot. Since it does not, they want the body closure boot( the big one)to be cut and pulled down around the shifter tower collar. The net affect is road debris is kept from the shifter but a great amount of trans noise that was shielded from the cabin in the production set up is now allowed in.You can fashion a shifter boot from the original standard shifter but the Hust boot is not going to work.I would look for a std boot to rework and not cut the body boot.
