Default Is the 5.3 truck intake better than the LS1/LS6 intake??

Hi,
My friend has an 01 chevy silverado 4x4 with a 5.3 in it. Hes swapped in an LS6 cam(against my advise cause I was worried about lost low end torque), some shorty headers, and a Vig 2600 stall and a built trans. The truck went 15.3@89 stock. After the cam it went 16.0 and I cant remember the MPH befor the stall and built trans , But I think its needing more air than the 5.3 truck intake can provide but he insists that hes herd the truck intake flows better than the LS1/LS6 intake. I dont belive this, or everyone would be running them sence hood clearance isnt an issue on cars with big cowls and such. I think he should atleast swap to an LS1 intake sence the 5.3 wont need quite as much air as a 5.7 or larger. Can anyone give me some hard evidence to stick in front of him to sway his judgement. Also does anyone know if the 2001 5.3 trucks have the torque managment program in the ECM? Thanks alot for your help.

Jeremy

Your friend is right. The truck manifolds flow better than the LS1 intakes and almost as well as the LS6 intakes. The LS6 manifold has a hard time fitting on the trucks because the TB sits too low and hits accessories in unmodified form.

Trucks have huge amounts of torque management...especially if they have throttle by wire. Tuning is critical.

Wow! I would have never guessed that the truck intake would flow better than the LS1 intake. Well I dont know alot about LS motors and its showing now. Ill pass on the info to him and push him towards some custom tuning. Thanks amillion for straightening me out
