series 2 vs series 3

series 2 vs series 3 do you have to, not should you, but do you have to have a series 3 carrier to use stock, gm, 3.42 gears? i need to know before i try putting gm 3.42s in my 2.73 stock rear end.

don't even bother, just get the right gears, if they make what's called "thick" 3.42's I dont know if they do, but I know i made the same mistake with mine and got standard 3.73's when I need to the thick 3.73's to make it work in my 2.73 rear end.
