Default Exhaust question.....

Ok, quick question guys. Got a friend who asked me, and I wasn't quite sure, and didn't wanna give him the wrong answer, so I figure I'll leave it up to the LS1tech gurus. Flames coming out of the exhaust when gas is laid off after hard accleration, due to backfire....Sign of running rich, or lean?

If you are taking that to mean one thing or the other think about the definition of rich and lean. Rich is too much fuel, lean is too much air. Fuel burns. (so rich)

That may or may not be the problem. There may be no problem.
