Check out the Altronics 8 egt datalogger graph
Cant wait to start hittong the direct port with this. This is from the Altronics 8 EGT datalogger. I think I will find this useful. Having the RPMs logged is a neat feature too. It takes a little getting used to looking at the graph and I cant show it all here because I had to do a "print screen" to show it. But in the program you can pan and zoom and deselect certain cylinders or whatever. The red line is the rpm, on the bottom is time, and to the right would be temp but you cant see it because its cut off. You can see the cursor on the graph though...wnd where the cursor is it shows the info for each cylinder on the left in the corresponding color boxes. I only logged one run but its very interesting. It shows a continous climb in temps as you go through the gears. Irrespective of load.
That alone shows you why you may get detonation in the higher gears and not in the lower etc. I cant wait to start spraying with this thing.
BTW,,,you can see each gear shift...but the first peak in rpm and then drop to 2700 rpm is actually me spinning at the track and then letting out and bogging back down to 2700 and getting back in it....after that all gears shifts can clearly be seen.

Very nice. Not so sure each cylinder can end up being the same EGT, doesn't placement in the firing order vs. intake tract distance have some effect on that? I know you could go one jet size larger or smaller, with spray, but NA wise you simply cant tune each individual cylinder 20+/- *, or is there software out that can accomplish that now?

Altronics advertises at $999
I got mine from ebay for $750
You should see the amount of info it can save. You can zoom in like crazy to where your looking at few hundreths of a second. Its amazing how much temp changes and how rapidly.
Definately a few cylinders out of wack but not so bad I am concerned for the motors safety. However there should be a few ponies to be had here and there. I think I am going to start swapping out injectors to see if the leaner or richer cylinders follow injectors first.

not sure...I will have to investigate. Currently the only way I know if is with something like the BS3 or FAST with individual cylinder tuning.
One thing I did forget...I need to ensure each probe is the exact length inside the primariy first. Then start datalogging for real.

MIke...its definately getting an auto. I would say the race weight with me in it is currently somewhere around 3250-3350. I will try to weigh it soon.
BTW...I ran at the track last night on motor. Of course the gearing is all wrong for NA and I just barely shifted into 4th before the traps and the DA was 2500+ with 94% humidty, and I only managed one real run. But I did go 10.7 @ 128.6 mph on motor with a soft 1.57 sixty foot.
I am fairly certain the next time at the track I will see some 10.5s @ 130 or so in this heat. I may switch to some 26x10.5 ET drags to help with the gearing on motor too. I have hit plenty of low 1.4s on those tires previously.
SO If I can get everything right I am hoping to see some 10.2-10.3s at 132-133 on motor with good weather. Then hit it with a well tuned 300-400 shot by gear with the NX MAximizer II. I am thinking about a 100 out of the hole ramping to a 175 by 7200 rpm. And bring in the full 300-400 or so in third and fourth by rpm.

Im pretty sure the LS1 is sequential...not that that really matters.
As far as using the EGT as a tuning tool..its very useful IMO...but only as a comparison of cylinder to cylinder...not really to get AF.
I think its still going to be essential to tune AF via the wideband and timing for best power first...then take a look at the EGT's to see any major variances. Thats why i decided to get the wideband datalog option with the MAximizer from FJO. That will be the primary tuning tool. The 8 EGT's will certainly tell you if something is out of whack though or in the case of this unit...cut the nitrous if EGT raises above a critical temp on any one cylinder. The FJO wideband can do the same.
