Ls1 Water Pump Removal Help!!!
I have a 98 Trans Am and the water pump was leaking coolant. I recently took off air box/lid, serpetine belt, couple pulleys, thermostat, and all 6 bolts holding on water pump to block and the damn thing will not budge. I ve hit it, pulled it, twisted it, and no movement at all. Can anyone help me get this off?? Any suggestions?

I had the same problem on my 98 Trans Am when I replaced the bad water pump. I took off all the bolts, but no matter how much I pulled or smacked it, wouldn't budge. Heres what worked for me, I used a breaker bar between the block and waterpump and pryed it off using leverage. If your afraid of damaging the block just wrap the bar with an old rag. Our cars are 7 years old and need a little extra muscle to take the waterpump off. Hope this helps.

Make sure you get some gasket remover and a good scraper (plastic) You will have fun scraping all that gasket material off the block. If you can't get it to move with the above method, I'd try pouring a little gasket remover on the gaskets and see if it deteriorates(sp) them enough to take it off a little easier.
