Ijust did the swap in a 98 t/a from a 6 speed. I just took a used th 400 and took it to a tranny shop an had them put a reverse manual valve body and a high performance clutch kit in it. That total caost was around 700 for very beefy tranny. The converter i got was TCI anywhere from 300-600$. You have to order a spacer from GM that cost 60$ that goes on after the flywheeland then the flywheel bolts go on. The flywheel I used was a 4l60e flywheel. You have to make the converter bolt holes on the flywheel a little bigger. Then I had a heavy duty drive shaft madeor you can buy them made already. I used a pro ratchet shifter under the stock shifter boot. I am interested in getting rid of my set-up. I only have about 400 street miles and only 7 1/4 mile passes on the complete set-up. If you have any more questions or are interseted in my set-up let me know.

Friend had a pile of trannys in his garage. Otherwise junk yard usally sell cores that need rebuilt. Or TCI sell a nice for around 900$. Or Cone sell a simaler one for 750-850.
