Default How to calculate quench

OK, forgive me for my lack of memory at the moment. To figure quench height all you do is:

Compressed gasket thickness - Piston out of hole height (average of 0.007") - head milling = quench height

Is this right? I seem to think that there is something missing, like some clearance between the head surface and piston no counting the gasket. Thanks.

Close...

Compressed gasket thickness minus piston out of the hole...

mine is .045 - .007-.008 = .037-.038 quench

Your "quench pad" is zero (level) with the surface of the head

No it does not. I just went to my garage and checked my old 241s and the quench pad is level with the rest of the head surface...
