Anyone else seen fatigue spalling on cam lobes??
Well, pulled the stock cam out of my engine last night and found what looks like some fatigue spalling on 2 of the lifter lobes. Anyone else seen this?
Is the stock camshaft cast? Good thing I am replacing it, and I am glad I ordered new lifters for it now

Mileage on the engine is 48,000. The stock cam has about 35,000 miles (previous owner had a TR224 cam in it for a while). It does have isky 295 springs, which are pretty stiff. I think it's lack of oil. The previous owner said one time after a dyno run the oil pressure dropped to basically 0. He shut her off right away, but I think thats what caused this cam issue (and probably my cylinder scuffing ).
Anyway, a new ported oil pump is going in with the new cam and lifters.

Ive seen a few other cases of this on the forum, but I dont recall any resolution as to how it actually happened. It looks very similar to the spalling on my rear axles when i changed my wheelbearings. My axle was never without oil, I figured the spalling may have been caused by small filings floating around after installing my 4.10s. In your case, maybe theres something floating arund your engine... might want to inspect your oil filter and check for filings.
