Lightbulb Another question on TDC?

Before I slap this car back together again. I have the heads off, both crank and cam dot are alighned at 12 and 6, both no.1 cyclinder and no. 6 cyclinder are flush with the deck. But Top dead center is only on the compression stroke. I heard the air so I set my dots. How can I be 100 percent sure I'm right? Cannot afford anymore screwups. Thanx.

If the dot's are lined up your good to go. Roll the moter over a few times and check to see if the dots line up each time they come around if so put it back together. When you have the push rods and rockers in roll it over by hand again to make sure nothing gets stuck, have the spark plugs out when the heads are on or you'll have a hard time turning.

Alright, that's the answer I needed. I already had turned the motor a couple of times, the dots line up. Thanx for the input, I'm sure to be asking for some more.
