Default H/C install, no tune, runs great

I just installed, all at once, patriot heads, 224 581" cam, LT's and TSP duals. I started it up and crazily enough, it ran and idled just fine! After working all of the air bubbles out of the cooling system I took it for a ride and it runs AWESOME. I have HPTuners on the way and I thought I would need to tune for sure for it to even run at all. I just wanted some feedback from everyone as to how their car ran after a similar install.

Car idled and drove ok.

When I'd give it 50% or more gas, I'd get some knock. But, this wasn't a stock tune, it was max timing w/o knock before heads/cam.

Tuned, no problem.

my car ran great after H/C/I...

the pcm is great at adjusting it self to changes made.

but the car felt even better after a tune.

drive the car for a coulpe weeks, then go get it tuned and you feal the diff.

good luck!

Couldnt have said it better myself....for my first cam that is. The 244/248 fell flat on its face.

I did the whole install from the top of the engine. It's not nearly as bad as it looks once you start removing engine parts. I would follow the guide from ls1howto.com. It was a great guide to reference from. I was even able to keep the A/C system sealed.
