Default Little Help Please

Okay, let me list my setup first, then I'll describe the problem and see if anyone knows what's going on.

2000 SS, stock block and heads(with rod bolts), 244/244 .600" cam on a 115 (originally for a turbo car, just had it laying around), patriot dual valve springs, turbo 400 trans with a 4000 stall, moser 12-bolt (3.42 gear), various tires, tnt f-1 kit, fuel pump, bmr k-member with lower control arms, bmr x-treme adjustable lcas and panhard rod, spohn torque arm (pinion at -2), and car has some weight removed (ac/spare/jack/front sway bar, the usual) I think that's it lol.

Now here's the problem(s). On motor, the car runs decent. Lower 12's at 114ish mph on a 15" nitto (7.7 at 90/91mph). When we put the 100 jets in (only ran them in the 1/8th) and stll on 15" nitto's, the car goes 7.4's at 96/97 mph spinning fairly bad. When we jump to the 200 jets and put on a set of E.T. drags (28 x 10.5 w's) the car only picks up .5-1 mph in the 1/8th and has gone a best of 7.25 at 98 mph in the 1/8th 11.2 at 124 mph in the 1/4. All of the 60's are in the higher 1.6 range, which I know is high and I know the 28 inch slick is too much tire, but we had them laying around. The car has no KR on any of the runs and timing is set to 28 for the 100 pills and 22 for the 200 (pump gas) shot. Air/Fuel is in the lower 11's down low and starts to climb to about 11.8 at the top of each gear, sometimes hittin 12 but no worse.

The same cam in a turbo built 370" LS1 with the 200 shot and Stock Suspension, 6-speed car, went 6.8 at 104 with a 1.58 60' in 95+ degree heat with a passenger, same 28" tire and also a 3.42 rear gear, and bogging out of the hole real bad. So I know the cam makes good power, and can handle the 200 shot, just kind of at a loss as to what's going on.

We've double checked the jets, triple checked the nitrous install and that it is indeed spraying, bottle pressure is always 1050-1100 at the beginning of the run. It's obvious the car isn't picking up like it should on the 100 shot, and definetly not doing anything on the 200. Any insight would help a ton, I know the setup isn't ideal but we threw it together just for "end of season" racing, bored, etc..

Thanks.

Michael

TTT

I gave up on trying to mess with it during the winter, as the car is my daily driver and I've just been too busy...but racing season is upon us and I'd like to get this thing lined out.

Dave

The car wasn't spinning when I was on the slicks, it's a 28 x 10.5 W and if anything, it's too much of a tire and it's bogging a little bit. Air fuel is in the 11's down low and climbs to 11.8 maybe 12 (only saw it happen once) at the top of the gears. The nitrous is definetly hitting, and we definetly have the right jets in...it's really just that the 200 shot isn't picking up anything from the 100 shot. Is it possible it's in the tranny? Car doesn't seem to be slipping (have had a couple auto trannies slip, so I know what it feels like) at all when I'm on the bottle...but is it possible it's in the converter?

Thanks.

When you say turbo built, does that mean it has a turbo on it. if so and your does not there is the difference.

Also each car is different, clutch cars are more efficent than a convertor car. 10mph is not bad but seems a little off. The 60ft being the same or all close to high 1.6's is leaning me towards a convertor issure, or just a combo issue meaning the convertor to the cam is not right.
Do you stall the full amount and have the pedal on the floor. Release the brake and car stumbles or bogs a little with and with out nitrous?

It was a motor built for a turbo setup, but didn't have the turbo on it at that time...he just threw a nitrous kit on it for fun. By saying turbo built, I guess I'm really implying 8.5 compression...etc.

I've left off the trans brake at 4400,4000,3500, and 3000. I've also left off the foot brake at 2000, 2200, and 2800. Pretty much everywhere. The car only stumbles really if I leave off the foot brake...it's almost as if the nitrous isn't hitting immediately. There's some video floating around somewhere of it, but i can't seem to ever find it.

Based on the given info I would either be looking at the converter (possibly blowing through it on the 200hp), or I would be looking at the nitrous system. You have said the nitrous system is definately activating, which is good. However, you might want to perform a flow/weight test between the 100hp and the 200hp. To perform this test just weight the bottle, the activate the system for ten seconds (disconnect the nitrous line from the nozzle, and just spray it into the air). After the 10 seconds weight the bottle again. For the 100hp setting you should use ~.8lb and for the 200hp ~1.6lb of nitrous. This basically will tell you if you are actually flowing enough nitrous for the 200hp setting (if it doesn't flow the correct amount, then there is some type of restriction in the system that is not allowing you to get the 200hp amount of nitrous, and consequintly why you not picking up much over the 100hp setting).

I am leaning more toward it being the converter or possibly being that you have way too much tire on the car with the slicks.
