What To expect "New Cam"
I recently swapped cams and went with a TR 244/252 .612/.632 113lsa +3* adv. ground in. I upgraded the valve springs from 918's to the patroit golds to be safe with the higher lift on the new cam. What can i expect to get this cam to idel at? Its looping at over 1000 rpms. I have warmed it up, broke in the new cam etc, but i still cant get the idel down under 1000 rpms without it sounding like crap and shaking hard, eventually falling on its ***. I new i would be giving up some drivability with the cam, is this what i am giving up? BTW my tranny is a TH 350 with manual valve body so the computer thinks its a M6. My old cam ideled closer to 850. Let me know if i am on track or i still have some work to do on this. Thanks Jim

really should be in the tuning section...
what are you tuning with?
my cam 238/244 idled at 1200 before tuning. One pro tuner said 1000-1100 was the best it would idle, another got it to 950. I started doing my own tune and have it idling at 825 with stock like manners.

sounds normal to me, that's a fairly big cam but I'm sure with some massaging you could get it a little lower. the question is why would you want to make it idle lower, i'm sure it lopes quite a bunch at 1000. low idle is not always good for stuff, especially agressive lobed cams with high spring pressure (not that that is really your case)

Thats kinda all i was wanting to find out. I expected it to be a little higher and it seems fine. Its just a number as far as i am concerned, just wanting to bounce it out there to make sure i wasnt way out there in left field hurting something. I wasnt to get into the whole tunning piece and tables etc. I will take care of all that after scanning it over the next few weeks and the dyno..
