Default Need Tranny Help: Space between TC and flywheel: Need washers?????????

Hey guys thanks for looking and taking time to help me out

My buddy and I ordered a rebuilt mildly built tranny with a 3200 stall for his 95 LT1 trans am. Everything went well, but what happened was the torque convertor when fully in sits too far from flywheel. I talked to the shop an they said use two washers. The shop is in South Carolina, and the rep on the boards is Zeeyah. Great guy, but just seeing if this is a common problem, and washers is the way to fix it

Depends. I just had a conversation with a local trans builder and racer. Here is some issues with TC/Flexplate/Trans clearances.
If installed the TC sits more than 3/16" your TC is not the correct length, either QC issue or whatever. The gap should only be 1/8", with max of 3/16". If you bolt up a TC thats too far from the TC, then it pulls the snout out of the pump engagement (forgot wtf its called) and will wipe out your pump. He recommends using square shims, if you can find them, didnt ask why since I trust his advice. Also the front of the TC pilot should be sitting in the Flexplate, and once inspected should have about 1/4" of paint removed from the pilot. This shows proper engagement of the pilot to reduce the load from the flexplate only etc..

Can you use round washers? I would say yes...but I am not a trans builder and I also know I was warned DO NOT use round shims. GL

Yeh I don't know what to do. Everything is up there. there was anout a 1/4 inch space. The TC clicked in and we mounted it up. I have no idea what we're going to do with it because it's fine now. It cluncked before but now we have no problem with it. We'll see tomorrow when I take it out for a drive right? Then we'll go from there. The trans shop who built the transmission said just use some washers
