I went from 3.42's to 3.90's and didn't pick up hardly any at all from just that. I already had a PT4000 converter and sticky tires though. 7.87 @ 87 in the 1/8th to 7.81 @ 87 with a raceweight of just over 3700 pounds. I did pick up about a half of a MPH as well. 60' went from 1.67 to 1.63. This change you're proposing is worth a lot more with a stock stall converter in an A4 car. It should benefit M6 cars much more than it helped me also.

M6 with BFG DR's stock size 275/40/17. I can rev to 7k and now just barely have to shift into 4th at the beginning of the trap. All else being equal, how much gain with the gear swap?

Probably 2-4 tenths but traction usually becomes an issue. If you are running an M6 and hook good with 4:10's they usually don't last long.
