Default How can I get a safe redline of 7000rpm's

On an LS1. I'd also like to make usable power up there as well. Is it possible to have an ls1 that spins to 7k and still last 60-80k miles? What are the major problems that begin to happen to the engines with high rpm redlines? Do LS1's tend to wear out the sides of the pistons at these rpms? Spin bearings quick?

Also what is the minimum required to get usable power up there assuming it is possible to do this. I already have 1 3/4 long tube headers, dual 2.5" exhaust, ls6 intake, custom CAI, ported stock TB, and a z06 cam. What would be holding me back from going to 7000?

Thanks!

opps, I just noticed I accidentally put this into the ls2-ls7 section. Can a mod move this for me?

I got the specs on my cam, which are:
224/224 .575/.575 112 lobe seperation

I see you said rod bolts and *****. The rod bolts arent a problem to get, but *****... that makes me think its not so good an idea to go to 7000. I want to be able to go there without *****. (errr...did I just say that?)

If you mean a stock shortblock I have been doing it for about 10K miles on a stock 23K mile shortblock with Katech rod bolts. I hit 7,000rpm a few times a day during my commute, road racing 1x month, and a handful of passes at the strip.

You really should run a FAST 90/90 as the LS6 intake leaves much to be desired and loses power above 6,000 to a FAST 90 pretty badly.

Also that 224 duration cam is too small to make good power up at the 7,000rpm range. You need more duration.

Keep the stroke to 4" or shorter and an LS1 should be able to take 7,000rpm. Remember rev's kill motors... the lower you can keep them revving the longer they last.

Unless you have ported heads there is no need to spin the motor that high anyway.

opps, I forgot to list the ported heads. They are FFHP ported heads.

I would say good valve springs, and rod bolts to start. That cam will peak too eally to give you much performance at 7k. Why not just spin it to 6500 and maintain some good drivablity. Reving to 7k will reduce the life of the bearings so I wouldn't expect the motor to last 80k, but sometimes it's like a lottery. You never know how long it will last until you try it.

You're going to be limited by the valvetrain. Your cam looks kinda close to our torquer cam and we've spun to 7000 with a lightwight valvetrain. You should use lightweight valves with titanium retainers.
