Default exhaust question

I have been searching for some time now. I haven't really been able to find my answer. I was wondering since I have a cut out now on the I pipe, if I was to get a catted Y pipe and Headers if it would be wise to put the 3 inch Y pipe onto the stock I pipe which is 2.5 inch i believe. Would this hurt the flow alot or would it work out just fine if it was welded. Thanks

Why don't you just have a muff shop weld in a 3" from end of Y to cutout. Would save you from wondering if you're getting everything out of it.

Yeah, but then the over the axle piece will still be 2.75", and you don't want a muffler shop to crush bend you a 3" piece of pipe over your axle. You can just buy a 3" I pipe and over the axle piece in aluminized from summit, or in stainless from SLP.
