Default whining after a hard turn

Any time I make a hard turn in either direction, I get a whining sound, like something just got thrown around and it now grinding on somethign else. It sounds like it's coming from right in front of the driver's seat.

My buddy told me it's probably the power steering, and that it's pretty common. Anyone else experience this?
