Plastic welding kits... whats the deal?

Default Plastic welding kits... whats the deal?

Ok, so leafing around car mags and sites over the years every once in a while I would notice a "plastic welding kit". Just wondering how it works, what its used for etc. For instance, if you broke a small plastic trim piece or the like, could you just "weld" the repair w/ the kit?

plastic welders are mainly for plastic bumpers..although they are pretty much out-dated and now have been replaced with glues. not worth 175 to me..but id take one for free..

most have a heating element and an atachment for an air hose... you can get them for $30 and they have many many uses
