Default alternator going bad?

i noticed today while driving my "check guages" light came on. I looked over everything and noticed my volt meter is in the yellow. the car drives fine but it wont get back to a normal volt reading. Is this the alternator going bad? If so how much can you pick one up for and are they hard to install? BTW my car is a 98 trans am with 70k miles. thanks in advance

If you need a new one, I picked one up at auto zone for $128. If you have another car you can remove yours, bring it in and have them test it for free. I just replaced my alternator yesterday, my voltmeter would dip when I hit the brakes and almost kill the idle and shut down, but when I revved it up the volt meter went back up.
