Lojack?
Anyone around here sell this system? Or know of something better? Having my car sitting out in the Boeing parking lot is making me nervous after reading John's post.

Lojack
Mark, call 1-800-4LOJACK (web site is http://www.lojack.com/ ) You can either take your car to a local designated car dealer or in my case because I was having them do more than one car, they will come to your home and install it. For the dealer option, they will ask for your zip code, and tell you which dealer in your area they work through. Lojack gives a $100 discount for an install on a second car and another discount for a 3rd car, as long as it is owned by you. This keeps friends from including their cars just for the discount, i guess.

Also Mark, call your local PD/Sheriff's Dept and the one near where you work to see what system they use. I know there is a system like that in use up here (I have asked my old man why the need for 42 billion antennas on some of the patrol cars) and he said it was for a Lojack-TYPE system........having "Lojack" won't do you any good if the cops in this area don't use that specific brand.
In LA it is a hot item, but then the next County North they don't use it, so it is useless to people who commute from the next County.

Now that's intersting. From listening to the commercials I just figured it was sort of a one size fits all sort of thing. I did not realize that they all used different brands/bands. That sort of makes things useless like you said.
I am not sure I ever really liked the idea of it myself. It almost sounds like a big-brother type of thing, or atleast a way to get a foot in the door for it. (And yes I am a paranoid conspiracy theororist.)

You're reading my mind Mark! I was ready to start this topic too.
I'm still trying to figure out a theft proof system (short of someone towing your car away which I know has been done!) for my LS7 Monte by either have a killer switch for the fuel pump feed or somthing else since it will be my daily driver. If anyone else has any ideas, I'm all ears too!

I used to have a simple kill switch on my old hot rod. I just hid a switch that killed the coil. Seems like a good idea in addition to LoJack all of the sudden. I'd have to quit my job & go hunting if someone stole my TA.....

forget Lojack or Onstar...this is why
tracking systems are easy to defeat. For GPS based systems, all you need to do is break off the antenna, or cover it with metal, and the GPS system is useless. If the GPS antenna can not see a satellite, the car can not be tracked.
Radio based systems are nearly as easy to defeat. Simply driving into a concrete parking structure blocks the radio waves. Even shipping cargo containers can block out the signal. Just check your cell phone next time you’re in your work’s parking structure or underground parking, and consider
also, long after your vehicle is recovered your vehicle title history will show a "Vehicle Theft." That's right. Companys that track vehicle history such as CarFax.com will show that your car has been stolen. Consider a buyer's perspective; if you have two identical cars you are considering purchasing, would you pay the same amount for a car that has been stolen? Most people would not.

If you decide to go ahead with the Lojack talk to Dan Davis at HD Auto. I know he's a dealer for them. He's a good guy that races Top Comp with us. He's definetly a car guy, and I'm sure he could get you sorted out with what ya want.
Good luck.
Good luck.
