camaro question-is it worth it
hello, i am on a slim buget.i seen a guy trying to sell a camaro ss for 4,500 with 150k on it.The car says it is in excellent condition, but the only draw back for me is the high miles.what do you guys think who are knowledgeable about this manner.i cannot go over 5,000 for a car,but i really want a 98 and up camaro which is either a ss,or z28.I know it may be hard for this little bit of money to find one thats good all around,or i can resort to getting a lt1 ss,or z28.sorry for the typing, was typing in middle of college class

get that or an LT-1. you can pick those up a lot cheaper as well. itll probably have mantenience issues, but if you want it. pick it up. be sure to check insurance prices though.

Are you sure it was a real SS and not a V6 car with badges? If its a real SS I'd bet it has a salvage title, doesn't run, or doesn't have a title/is stolen. The car would have been sold that day if he was really trying to sell an LS1 SS in "excellent" condition.

i know all these guys say go for it... but eff that... none of em have 150k on their cars.
If i were you id put off buying an ls1 for a while until you can save up the money... bottom line is when that engine goes you are going to be paying a pretty penny for a car that has 150k on it
save up a few more grand and you will have one with low miles
good luck

I have a 136k on my car, and she ******* screams for what it is... Runs great. SO don't act like its 1955 and a two year old car with 50k miles on it is a POS rust bucket.

It really comes down to money my friend and it sounds like you would be stretching your budget. If the car does break on you will you be able to afford the repairs or will you have a 4500 dollar yard ornament? Take the 98 Formula below. I got a "GREAT" deal on it. $7500 and it has a complete aftermarket suspension, ZR1 17 inch wheels with new tires, 345/35/17s out back and 275/45/17s up front, been lowered an inch or so, a 6 speed, possibly 3.73s, and only had 78,000 on clock. Problem was a noise started in the engine within a hundred miles of purchase. I originally only had 2,000 to put towards repairs and had the rockers replaced. The mechanic said the starter was going bad and he supposedly (he didn't) replaced it and did a tune up. The car only got worse. Lifter came apart and ruined the block. Crank and cam were junk too. I got a new mechanic (SRP in Cincinnati) and am in the process of having a new engine built for it including a small cam. Total cost for car now: $12,500 While some of these guys may be quick to tell you buy it and replace the engine with a Ls2 or 408 you and only you know the limitations of you budget. If you have the resources to expend should something go sour, go for it, if not at least make sure you have something else for a daily driver, just in case. In the end it's a gamble. Well worth it if the car is a good one, and a major pain in the *** if it's not. My car sat for a total of 9 months thanks to a seller who hid some major problems, a thief disguised as a mechanic, limited resources on my part, and difficulty finding someone reliable to fix the car and honestly disclose it's needs (SRP). Thanks Tracy and Tyler, Y'all are the best. Jerry
