Cut the stock stick?

Cut the stock stick? Can you cut the stock stick instead of buying a short one? I only want to shorten it about 2 inches, and I can only find aftermarket sticks that are quite a bit shorter.

the stock stick is pushed into a rubber bushing
which helps isolate some sound. I bought the 6.5 stick from
ws6store and like it. It only took like 2 days to get it
and 5 minutes to install.
