Default How to Care for HPR5 (and other HP Wheels)

I posted a thread on ZoopSeal because I was thinking about sealing the lips of my HPR5 wheels. I figured I might as well Call HP Design and check on things.

They have a Chrome lip and the wheels are clear coated.

Recommendations (from HP Design):
ONLY use soap and water
Do not use polishes
Do not use wheel cleaning solutions
If you live in snowy places, Don't drive it on the roads because the salt will possibly damage the rims

Hope this information helps and is useful to everybody.
If you don't have the same wheels...I'm sure the same techniques apply. If you're unsure....check with the manufacturer.

If you guys have any other suggestions....or personal eperience....share.

IMO:

Soap and water, nothing else to clean.

Occasional wax on chrome to protect

If you take care of your wheels and wash them frequently, theres no reason to use anything more than soap and water.

so true. When I got my new wheels, I was nervous because it looked like they had lots of tough places to clean.....but then my buddy reassured my I won't have any problems because I wash my car/wheels so much......they will never be "hard" to clean. He was right.

For billet aluminum though: What a shine (pink) polish ownz

When you're wiping the wheels down, be really careful around the rivets. They don't look it, but those things are sharp! They have a tendency to snag on the cloth you're using and then you have to deal with the tedious task of picking frayed bits of thread out of them. The best type of cloth I've found to use to wipe down wheels is a lambskin chamois. They're kind've expensive, (like $15), but they're more spongelike than clothlike so the frayed strands of fiber isn't so much of a problem. (They last a LONG time too.)

Good tips everyone!

I agree that keeping your rims clean in the first place is the best way to do it.

They did mention that a polish every once it a while wouldn't hurt either.

To see the pics and other information......check out my other thread posting.....

https://ls1tech.com/forums/wheels-tires/455693-got-my-new-hpr5-s-pics.html

Yeah....it's too bad they only make them up to a 9.5".....I'd love to even get a 10.5"....think of the meats!....think of the dish!.........they're still awesome.....and a 275 is nothing to scoff at......

That's really sweet!

I just wonder how the offset will turn out. They stick out quite a bit.....so putting the extra material like that inside should work. Who makes a 315+ 19" tire?

Are those rims yours? I'd like more info/pics.

I had the fronts widened to 10 inches and the rears 11. The new offset on the fronts is +49mm and the rears are +56mm. I test fit them before I started polishing them and the fronts fit fine but in the rear I'm gonna have to do some serious BFH'ing and most likely relocate my bump stops inward about a half inch, but it's nothing that hasn't been done before.

The company who did the widening can be found here: www.weldcraftwheels.com

They DO make the HPR5's in chrome now but for some reason they didn't make them with the 120mm bolt spacing. My guess is that it'll just be a matter of time before they do. As far as more pics I'll have them pretty soon as I'm still working on polishing them. Doing a custom one-off look where the spokes and lip will be polished and the perimeters where the rivets are set will be black chrome...

No one has info because HP does not make them wider than a 9.5.And they do not make them in Chrome in our bolt pattern.
