why does my trip reset?

Default why does my trip reset?
if i leave my car sitting in the garage for a couple days or all week my trip will reset to zero miles.is that normal?

mine did that so I put the battery on trickle charge for about 10 hours and its been almost 2 months now and everything is right ( although Auto Zone said my battery was bad?)
