What year LS1 ?
I purchased a LS1 from a guy, and he does not know what year or type of car it came froom. Is there an easy way to tell what it's out of and year? The alternator is down low. I think that means it's from a camaro.

Well, easiest way is probiably off the block. Casting number is on the drivers side of the motor on the back of the motor right below the drivers side cylinder head. Heads could have been changed for XYZ reasons which is why I would use the block if you have a casting number of 12550592 early 98 or 99, or 12559090 it is late 98 early 99. Casting numbers 125555846 is used from 99-00 and some in the 98 motors. Numbers 12559378 is 00-01 LS1 block and 12561168 which is the LS6 block from 01+

Look at the valve cover if it has perimeter bolts it is a 97-98 LS1, if it has center bolts it is a 99 or up. If it has an LS6 inatek, it is a good assumtion it is a 2001-2002. ON the LS1 vette the alternator is on top
