Rear main seal?
whats up guys.
I just sold my 97 Lt1 and bought a 99 Z28, and the rear main seal on the Z28 is leaking. my question is how hard are they to change? Ive had a couple people tell me it takes 20 min, and to just count the teeth on the gears, and others told me the gears should be re-shimmed after. Whats the best why to do it, and about how long should it take? thanks for the help

Pinion seal sux. If u dont know to much about rearends i would take it to a shop. But if u feel confident do it yourself. If u reuse the crush nut u have to tq it down to the exact same spot it was in or u will screw up the gears. Do a search and there is a ton of people with this prob. Make sure u clean the yoke with some 000 steel wool or emery cloth if u decide to do it yourself.
I dont know how true it is but I think u can mark the yoke nut with a marker and just tighten it back till the marks meet.
Im doin mine this sat. so ill see how it goes. Hope this helps

According to the shop manual, you need to mark the nut, yoke and case and put them all back where they were. When the nut reaches the mark, it says to tighten it an extra 1/6 of a rotation.
Hopethis helps.
