Default overheating problem

hello all. i have a problem with my 02 Z28. occasionally upon start up, the engine will overheat and my check gauges light will come on. i'll turn my heater on and it will bring it back to normal. i haven't touched any part of the cooling system since i bought the vehicle new. i was thinking it may be a sticky thermostat, but i wanted to consult you guys before i ripped into it. whacha think? TIA.

It could be a variety of problems.

1. Make sure nothing is blocking airflow in front of the radiator. Also, check the coolant level in the resevoir.
2. Check the coolant temp sensor and verify the connection is good.
3. Start the car up and allow it to warm up. As the car is warming up, feel the upper radiator hose by and it should be warm. If not, could be a sticking thermostat.
4. Verify the fans turn on as the car reaches operating temperature.
