Finally found out Why the Dyno Mule DIED.props to GM.
Ok after a year or so without having the dyno mule to beat on we fianlly found the time to find out why the engine locked up. Now this car had over 150 dyno pulls on it, testing systems, cams, heads, and the INFAMOUS NXL LEAN SPIKE.
The cars best numbers where 636ft lbs, and 626hp on a NXL 200 shot.
One on the dyno the car died and would not crank over, so we thought screw it get back to work! we finally killed the thing. Time passed and then found out all we did was spin a rod bearing, # 2 I think. thats it, pistons are fine, rods are fine, the rods and crank where fine, the bearing did have little signs of detination or at least some serious cylinder pressures.
One thing to boot about all this, is the bottom end was stock 98.
These engine are one tough SOB's straight from GM.

I agree...I think they can take alot more than some think. The one we had up to 680 rwhp burnt a valve due to a bad tune later. The pistons and rods were ok on that one too.
Gte that motor back together and start testing again.

This really is a testament to how well the LSx engine is put together. That car was owned by my brother before NX got their hands on it. Once Ricky got his hands on the car he beat the hell out of it on the dyno. I think it had pretty much no street miles on the car once NX got, except more maybe the occasional run to the gas pump and then it was back on the rollers, lol.
Keep in mind, this car was making over 600rwhp with a stock fuel pump without a hot wire kit or anything , and doing it with a NXL system (the system that people had lean issues with).

Hehe. I broke a timing chain on my engine at 6000+ rpms. 10 bent valves, of course the chain, and some minor valve reliefs were the only results. Threw on some new heads and it runs better than ever.
I personally think the stock pistons/rods....at least the Ls6 are ALOT stronger than people realize.
In addition the STOCK crank has reliably taken beatings of as much as 1200rwhp in these beauties.
PS. I love nitrous. (nitrous related post qualifier)
