Ring Gear Binding Every 180 Degrees?
I just had my posi break on my 10 bolt. So I bought another one (same style unit) and swapped it out. I used the same ring gear and shims from my old setup. When I torque the caps to 65ft'bs the ring and pinion seem to bind every 180 degrees rotation of the ring gear. I can still turn it past this point, but it is real tight. Anybody have any thoughts? I also tried to swap the shims from side to side in case I had them mixed up, but the same thing occured.

Flange run out or debris under the ring gear when it was mounted...... might also have some pinion run out, but I bet its related to the ring side of things.
Take the ring off, wipe the flange clean. Install and check run out before and after you re-mount the ring gear to the differential.

I went ahead and bolted the ring gear back on the old posi and installed it. The old posi had no bind. I then put the ring gear on the new used posi and it was binding again. I am going to install new bearings on the new one and see if this is the problem.
