ls1 problems
okay i bought my 98 camaro z28 with the ss package and slp package and now when i start it up after letting it sit it knocks just alil like a donut gasket is bad but when it warms up it stops and when i put it in gear the trans hits hard and it just seems like it doesnt wanna go over 130mph like the trans is holding it back from going any faster. does anyone know what any of these problems could be? it only has 61thousand miles on it damn near 62 with a 4l60e trans

Im pretty sure the knocking sound is piston slap and its very normal on most ls1s untill warm up accurs so its no big deal dont worry about that. The transmission i cant help you with but good luck finding your answer.

i have no clue if these cars have speed governors on them, but that may be stopping you up top

Sounds like the governor to me though I am yet to drive an LS1. CAN it go over 130? Or it just kinda runs out of breath and starts to accelerate slowly? And aren't auto's usually governed lower than manuals?

Yes it will go over 130, and no the autos aren't governed lower, the stock tires speed rating determines the top speed (Z rated 162, anything else 115)
Try checking the simple stuff first, like the fluid level, the hitting hard and (I'm guessing) the slipping at the higher rpms could be a result of low fluid level, or possibly a clogged filter

it will get to 130 quick as hell, the car will fly but i think it has a higher gear in the rearend because it leaves hard, harder than my firebird does and i have a 4.11 in it. but when its at 130 its at 3500 to 4000 rpms and it just seems like the overdrive is maken it fall on its face.

in fifth it ls1's can produce a good climb to speed limiter, its also very deceptive because its so damn smooth driving up to that speed too, it isn't till 160+ that aero comes into play...
