4L80 vs. TH400 vs. ??? in 4600# Car

4L80 vs. TH400 vs. ??? in 4600# Car
It's getting close to time to start thinking about what transmission I am going to run. I have already ruled out the 4L60 for sure. Just looking for opinions on which one you would pick if you were me. It will see limited street duty and quite a bit of time at the track.
The Car:
1992 Olds Custom Cruiser (thats a wagon for those not in the know)
6.0L Gen III, cam, heads, comp. bump.
stock suspension on drag radials
Bench weight about 4600#
HP at flywheel... hoping for around 500
So... which tranny to go with? How much heavier is the 80 over a 400? How much hp does it take to turn both of them? Note... if things go well this year over the winter it will get a much better motor and I would like to stick with the same style trans with it. Im leaning toward the 4L80 unless someone talks me out of it. Any thoughts other than get a lighter car? LOL

The 80E is a great tranny and you get to program it to exactly how you want it. I have mine set to turn from mild before half throttle, to a strip beast right at about 47% TPS. Neck snapping shifts above there. I have a seperate profile for nitrous that sets the shift points lower. You can raise the shift point in 3rd to keep you there through the traps.
I'd never go back to a non-electronic tranny. I have the Hughes street/strip.
Also getting 17mpg on the highway.

Should be about the same in power loss because they are essentially the same trans except the 80e has the additional overdrive gear. The weight I would guesstimate is around 100 heavier. I believe it was weighed to 230 lbs. I have an 80e and love it. My friend has a th400 so I've driven both. He wanted 80e after one drive in my car. The lock up converter is an awsome feature, and makes for better drivability. You can program it however you like to make it tame or aggressive. Neck snapping 3rd gear shifts are a lot of fun.
