Low oil pressure??

Low oil pressure?? I just finished with my cam swap (TR227/224). When the car first started up, it took awhile to get oil pressure, but it did. But the thing is, on cold start ups, it only gets about 30 psi. So far I have not driven it on the street, so I don't know if that number would go up. I reused the same oil pump that was previously on it and it would pull alot more pressure than it does now. Is this due to the cam, or is something definitly wrong here?

Re: Low oil pressure?? I had the o-ring on the tube, and I tried to keep an eye on it while I tightened the bolt. It appeared to be ok, but I cant see it once it gets tight all the way. I fear it has something to do with the O-ring. I'm prolly going to put on a ported pump anyway now.

Re: Low oil pressure?? Yeah, it tough to say then. As long as you were "aware" of the o-ring, and you tried to keep things lined up, that's all you can really do.
When I swapped out my pump, since I had the lovely pressure relief valve problem that GM would not fix <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> since they could not duplicate in their shop, so they blamed it on the sender which they said they replaced, but they didn't <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> ... ANYWAY, sorry for going off on a tangent...
When I swapped my oil pump, I used a new o-ring, and did my best to keep it lined up, and it turned out ok. You might as well put a new pump in, like you said, since it involves a fair amount of work getting it in there...

Did you make sure the rubber O ring that fits on the pickup tube that goes into the oil pump was seated correctly?
I know there is not much room to work in there, but the O-ring must not be pinched or you will lose pressure. Did you put a new one in?
I will say this, if there was NO O-ring you would probably have much less pressure.
I think you may have to do the dreaded, and start taking your engine apart again... <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> I know that damn radiator is a PITA!
