Default Gas Shortages

McKinney is out of gas. Drove around for 30 minutes before I found a station that had gas. Was wondering if it was just up here or every where.

People are stocking up on gas would be my best bet, since people worry the prices won't stop going up....

They probably won't stop going up. I still hear rumors and rumblings of up to $4.00 a gallon.

There have been no shortages in my area at all.

Ethanol mixing is the reason for this. Valero (biggest refiner in North America) had to cut production, nearly to a standstill because they cannot source enough ethanol to blend per congressional mandate into normal gas. Talk to your representative.

Refiners have oil, just not enough ethanol to produce the legally required product. We did this to ourselves.

The beater car will be getting its inspection soon. I went to houston on monday to pick it up. Has 1/4 the HP of the smurf, and a full tank last me 3 weeks.

The President of Iran stated that we are paying more than what the oil is worth, with them being the 4th largest supplier I wonder if he may be telling the truth. He also in a round about way threatned to cut off the shipping channel if the U.S decides to take any actions against Iran. Also the President of Venezuala said that if the U.S. tries to overthrow him (which has been a rumor) that he will blow up there oil fields. So I think we may need to be prepared for 4-5 $$ for 87 octane before to long, France and England are already paying that much. This is what happens when we decide to try and control the planet and not take care of ourselves and be resourceful.

Maybe Bush's legacy will be that he was the president that nixed our habit for foreign oil? I'm all for it even if it does mean we pay a little more at the pump. Having these whacked out countries controlling our lifestyles isn't something I'm fond of.

Are you sure you want to do that? My Vette is my economy car. It still averages 20-23 MPG (26 all highway). My truck only gets around 13 MPG on average. Heck, even with the occasional spirited drive in the Vette, I can get 18MPG average.

I get better range on the Vette and still pay less for a tank of Premium 93 than my Truck with 87.

no, that Ethanol is to replace MTBE, which is an additive to gas to reduce emissions. has nothing to do with reducing imports of foreign oil. MAYBE in time, we will use a higher % of ethanol, but i dont see it happening for many many years because relativley, so few cars are certified to run on E85.
